Feeding Project in South Africa

“Sometimes I just wish you were here, to see and hear how people express themselves. Many lives are being positively impacted. This program has opened great doors for evangelism. Many people responded for prayer before the meal could even be served” - local township pastor

Local pastors, churches, and volunteers help to lead the feeding program, with the funds from The Ukukhula Collective, in South Africa.

Support during Lockdown

God put it on our hearts to help feed families in a slum township area of Cape Town, which we have visited often and have grown to love so deeply. Weekly supplies of food parcels/packages have been given out to help them during lockdown times caused by the Pandemic.

God took what you and I could give & grew it EXPONENTIALLY!

Our initial plan to provide food parcels and care package distributions has grown into Soup Kitchens serving hot meals feeding many more people. Pop-up soup kitchens have been set up in the neediest areas of the slums where local pastors could foresee the greatest impact. There are already 5 township areas that have each served 150 to 600 people. These outreaches are coupled with the love and Gospel of Jesus Christ resulting in people responding to prayer which includes salvations.

We are blown away at the combined effort of so many people who worked together to make all of this happen. There were helpers who would get gas for the portable stoves, those who purchased vegetables and cooked the soup. Some were shoppers purchasing the necessary items for the food parcels and care packages (ie. cooking basics), and then those who would simply sanitize the hands of the hungry and needy standing in line, helpers who set up, tore down and for cleanup.
The heart of the local church grew as they saw so many lives touched by this program. After taking part in this, they felt lead to start collecting and donating clothes to the needy alongside feeding them. They also plan to distribute blankets because the cold winter is coming and the metal sides of their shacks radiate the cold.

Continue to add your support & prayers for this program
and all that the Lord adds to it; including lifting up those who have run with it to serve the needy.

Your generosity has funded these outreaches in townships of South Africa:

    •  In Guguletho, packages of food were given out to around 40 families and there was a write up about it in the Newspaper
  • April 29, 2020.
    • In Barcelona, after 5 shacks/homes burned down, dinner was cooked for them.

    • A soup kitchen fed people in Kanana.
  • May 26, 2020.
    • 300 people were served through a soup kitchen in an informal settlement in Nyanga called Barcelona.

    • In Athlone, clothing distributions were added to the soup kitchen and food package giveaways. The local pastor’s team collected the clothes which were greatly appreciated. 12 adults responded for prayer.

Quoted Praise Reports

The people of Barcelona, Cape Town, appreciated the food distribution so much. At one point, an elderly mother stood up in front of everyone and, full of gratitude and exclaimed,
“You have saved us and our children from hunger. Up to this point, we've been waiting for Government food parcels and we haven't received anything. But God sent you to us, God heard our prayers. God bless you!”

We are in awe of His Goodness, as we watch the Lord provide the needed funds each and every week to continue this program!

Another old man humbly told us,
“We wish this may continue as many of us are struggling. My pension grant cannot sustain us, and our families, during this lockdown. My children also cannot go job hunting because of the coronavirus and have all become dependent on my pension grant.
Thank you so much.”

So many feel valued and cherished, especially the children as they open their mouths to be fed and their hearts to be loved by God.

The local Pastor working with us expressed,
"It's been on my heart to serve God's people beyond church walls, but due to lack of resources I couldn’t. And now seeing people's lives changing for the betterment brings joy to my heart. We truly appreciate the support!

We are foreseeing being able to provide
shoes for the children,
since many of them are barefoot or need better foot protection.

Thank you to all who have given to make this happen!
We so appreciate your prayers and support.

In Christ,
The Ukukhula Collective
